On the way to work.

Let's get caught up on 'what I seen on the way to work'.  Also what I've seen at work and on the way home.

Pregnant cows are brought in to a field on the west side of the freeway between 12th and 21st streets  I know that spring is around the corner and soon I'll have frolicking calfs to see each morning.  The rancher keeps them there until April-May.  For those three months each year, this starts my commute to work with a smile.

This duck was waddling around work, and I had to send a message to a birder at work to find out what on earth it was.   It is a Muscovy duck.  Someone's pet that has gotten out.  They are not native to Utah, but are popular pet ducks.  The magpies did not care for this duck walking around.  They had it surrounded at one point.  It waddled off and I haven't seen it since.

The long horn cattle on north Legacy have moved out to the pastures now the snow is melted.  These cows are really colorful and I have taken several photos of them.  I love it when it warms up and they come up by the freeway so I can see them better.

This owl was on the side of Legacy right before I left for Tennessee.  I had stop and get photos of it.  It looked so soft and dare I say cuddly on the side of the freeway, I had to fight the instinct to pick it up and hold it.  I was saddened to see it on the side of the freeway, but grateful to have the opportunity to get pictures of it.

It's spring and the birds around work are, um, lets say very active.  This crazy goose and it's mate were up on top of the building.  The geese never get up there, so this was an unusual sight.

We've got all the signs of spring.  Calves being born, the geese getting amorous, the tulips coming up from the winter slumber, pelicans (there's got to be about 30), and... the worms covering the  parking lot after the first warm rain.  I did not rescue any of these, but I did rescue 2 big ones at home.

This abandoned house is west of freeway 201, just north of the airport.  I just keep thinking that it will be collapsed one day when I drive in.  There's a small cabin on the south side of it.   The land is for sale,  so I also think one day I might come past and it will be torn down.  I've taken at least 4 photos of it over the years.  I think I'm going to try to get one each April or May until it either 1-falls down, 2-gets torn down, or 3- I retire and don't drive past it anymore.

One odd thing, there are some Goldeneye ducks still hanging around.  I figured they'd be gone by now.  But we'll enjoy looking at them while they're here.

Not a bad episode of 'what I saw on the way/at/on the way home from work.
